7th International Conference on Sustainable Textile 2024
Department of Textile Engineering, UET Lahore, Faisalabad Campus organized two mega events of Textile Sustainability on 3rd December 2024. The events held under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mohsin, Campus Coordinator and Chairman Textile Engineering, Faisalabad Campus. The Vice Chancellor UET, Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir (Chief Patron ICST 2024) emphasized that the significance of this event goes beyond showcasing innovation, it highlights our collective responsibility to adopt the global challenges such as climate change, resource depletion and need for socially responsible manufacturing.
This conference reflect UET,s commitment in developing solutions that align with the united nations sustainable goals as well as UET support for the textile sector. The conference featured 14 international distinguished key note speakers and 8 national speakers on textile sustainability. The key speakers include Prof. Dr. Chris Carr, University of Leeds-UK, Mr. Karl Borgschulze, CSI-Germany, Prof. Dr. Abdel-Fattah M. Seyan, North Carolina State University-USA Dr. Xiong, Shinshu University-Japan, Dr. Mattia Bartoli, CSFT Torino-Italy, Dr. Aminoddin Haji, Yazd University-Iran, Dr. Wakil Shahzad, Northumbria University-UK, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karahan, Uludag University-Turkey, Prof. Dr. Elsayed Ahmed Elnashar, Kaferelsheikh University, Egypt, Prof.
Dr. Seshadri Ramkumar, Texas Tec University-USA and others. Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood, Director KICS & CERAD (UET), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mohsin, Chairman Textile, Dr. Nabeel Amin, Head of Compliance-Ministry of Commerce, Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Hasan Malik, Dean School of Textile & Design, UMT also share their knowledge with the audience. More than 1000 textile industry and academia representatives of the top textile mills and academia of Pakistan attended the conference. Panel Discussion on the topic of “Sustainable Textiles-Role of Safe Working Environment-Convergence of Policy, Dialogue and Technology” was also held at the conference. Ms. Noshaba Aslam (Sr. Manager Sustainability, MTM). Mr. Azizullah Goheer (Secretary-PTEA). Mr. Zubair Rajpoot (Deputy Director, Labour & HR Department, Punjab). Mr. Muzamal Saeed Bajwa (Secretary, SIA). Mr. Abdul Rauf-Moderator (Advisor-GIZ, TextILES-II) were the panelist and gave valuable insight on the above topic to the audience. “All Pakistan Textile Sustainability Student Competition 2024” also took place along with the conference and more than 500 sustainability projects from all Pakistan were shortlisted and displayed. At the end top ten positions were announced and awarded with shields and prizes.
Inauguration of “Urban Forest-Site four” at the UET Lahore, Faisalabad Campus. More than twenty-six thousands (26000) plants have been planted in the last 2 years at Faisalabad Campus and green campus initiative is aggressively followed at UET. Annual International Conference on Sustainable Textile and Textile Sustainability Student Competition are the biggest gathering of textile sustainability in the country. These initiatives are the part of the efforts of UET and its Textile department to enable Pakistani textile industry as sustainable industry. This will not only improve our environment, foster innovation but it can bring more top brands to the Pakistani textile industry.
