Chemical Engineering Department, UET Lahore Hosts Five-Day Workshop on Chemical Risk Management Curriculum Development
The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, proudly inaugurated a five-day workshop on "Chemical Risk Management Curriculum Development" on Monday. This significant academic and scientific event is funded by the U.S. Department of State's Chemical Security Program and is jointly managed by Sandia National Laboratories (USA), the CWC Wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pakistan, and UET Lahore.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by distinguished chief guests: Mr. Stretson Sanders, U.S. Consul General in Lahore, and Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir, Vice Chancellor of UET Lahore. Both dignitaries emphasized the importance of chemical safety, international collaboration, and educational development in addressing global and local security challenges. Prof. Dr. Naveed Ramzan, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical, Metallurgical and Polymer Engineering (CMP), is serving as the focal person for the workshop.
He highlighted the critical role of integrating chemical risk management into academic curricula to build a resilient and security-conscious generation of engineers and scientists. The workshop brings together national and international experts, with sessions led by esteemed resource persons Dr. Mirvat Abdelhaq and Dr. Straut Langlinais.
The program covers comprehensive strategies for chemical risk assessment, mitigation techniques, and the incorporation of best practices into university-level education. This initiative underscores the commitment of all partner institutions to strengthening chemical security and education in Pakistan and fostering long-term international cooperation in science and safety. The workshop will run from September 9 to 12, 2025, and includes interactive training modules, curriculum development sessions, and collaborative discussions aimed at enhancing academic capacity and institutional safety practices.
