Digital age, AI and ethical values—a thoughtful special session at UAT December 1st, 2025

A special session on the topic "Benefits of AI in the Age of Modern Technology" was held for the students of BS Islamic Studies (Specialization in Computer Technology) at Shabba Uloom-e-Islamia, University of Engineering and Technology (UAT) Lahore. The purpose of the session was to provide students with in-depth insights into the demands of the digital age and safeguarding ethical values.
 
The keynote speaker of the event was digital and social media expert Tabish Qayyum, while Waqas Abdullah also expressed his thoughts. Chairman Shabat Uloom-e-Islamia Dr. Zahid Latif and spokesperson UAT Dr. Tanveer Qasim welcomed the guests along with other faculty members.
 
Tabish Qayyum praised the vision of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shahid Munir, calling BS Islamic Studies viz Specialization in Computer Technology programme as the need of the hour. He said in his speech that media is a double edged sword which is used for both construction and destruction. Resource can be; Muslims should use this force in a positive way to make an effective source of preaching religion.
 
He added that scholars should present Islamic teachings in an effective way that touches hearts and helps reform society. He said the digital age has brought freelancing, graphic design, coding and data analysis for the youth. Created numerous employment opportunities including. Youth can become part of the global market through online courses. Social media has connected youth from all over the world and provided them a platform for expression and positive social change.
 
Technology has made life easier, but it also has serious risks, said Tabish Qayyum. Issues like data privacy, cyber bullying, hacking and online harassment affect the confidence of young people. Parents and teachers should do this. They provide guidance to the youth on online activities and teach them safe usage methods. They also assured all possible support to provide technical skills to the students of UAT.
Addressing UET spokesperson Dr. Tanveer Qasim said that technology does not bring benefit or harm in itself, rather its use makes it useful or harmful. Technology can become a source of development if the youth keep digital responsibility and ethical values in mind. He also shared the good news that a digital media lab will soon be established in the Islamic Studies Department, where practical training will be provided to students to become media experts.
Chairman Dr. Zahid Latif thanked the guests and appreciated their thoughts. In this meeting, faculty members Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahbaz, Dr. Qudratullah, Dr. Nadeem Shah, Dr. Usman Shafiq, Hafiz Saiful Islam Naeem, Rana Ehsan Elahi Zaheer, Dr. Mubashir Rasheed, Hafiz Abdul Waheed, Qari Ijaz Ahmed A large number of students including Shahid Janbaz participated.
