UET Lahore Concludes Five-Day Workshop on Curriculum Development for Chemical Risk Management

The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore successfully concluded a five-day workshop on Curriculum Development of Chemical Risk Management, held in collaboration with the National Authority for Chemical Disarmament, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan, and the U.S. Department of State under its Chemical Security Program, powered by Sandia National Laboratories, USA.

The closing ceremony, held at UET Lahore, was attended by high-level dignitaries and experts committed to enhancing chemical safety and security frameworks in Pakistan. Key guests who graced the occasion included: Mr. Tahir Hussain Andrabi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Her Excellency Natalie A. Baker, Chargé d'Affaires, U.S. Embassy in Pakistan Mr. Stretson Sanders, Consul General, U.S. Consulate General, Lahore Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir, Vice Chancellor, UET Lahore Prof. Dr. Naveed Ramzan, Dean Faculty of Chemical, Metallurgical & Polymer Engineering (CMPE), and Focal Person for Chemical Safety and Security, UET Lahore Renowned international experts Dr. Christine Straut Langlinais and Dr. Marvit Abdel Haq served as lead resource persons, delivering sessions that focused on the development of localized academic curricula tailored to modern chemical risk management needs.

Mr. Wardha Amir, representing the U.S. Department of State, also attended the closing ceremony and reiterated the United States’ commitment to supporting Pakistan’s initiatives on chemical safety and non-proliferation. The workshop brought together faculty members from UET Lahore and Punjab University, offering them comprehensive training on chemical risk identification, mitigation strategies, and curriculum integration aligned with global best practices. Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir emphasized the need for strong collaboration between academia, government, and international partners to institutionalize chemical safety across educational institutions and research laboratories in Pakistan.

Additional Secretary Mr. Tahir Hussain Andrabi acknowledged the significance of academic preparedness in fulfilling Pakistan's obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention, while Her Excellency Natalie A. Baker appreciated the spirit of cooperation between the two nations, particularly in areas of education and security. Certificates were distributed to all participants in recognition of their successful completion of the training program. This initiative marks a progressive step in building national capacity for chemical security, education, and international compliance—laying the foundation for further collaboration and policy development in the field.
