Zimal Society UET Lahore Hosts Awareness Session on Digital Safety in Collaboration with Women Development Department, Govt. of Punjab
The Zimal Society at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, in collaboration with the Women Development Department, Government of the Punjab, organized an interactive awareness session titled “Digital Defenders: Empowering Society Against Online Abuse.” The event was held as part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign, aiming to promote digital safety and responsible online behavior.
The session featured insightful talks from Ms. Ammarah Wakeel, Chief Minister Female Ambassador for Women Wellbeing, and Rohini Lakshané, who joined online to share expertise on AI-facilitated and image-based digital abuse. Ms. Minahil Farooq provided valuable legal guidance on cyber harassment, survivor support, and the importance of recognizing digital rights.
Ms. Faiza Ahsan, Additional Secretary, Women Development Department, graced the session as chief guest. In her concluding remarks, she emphasized the need to cultivate safer, more respectful digital environments, especially for young people navigating online spaces.
The event was attended by Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Hayat, Advisor Zimal Society Dr. Rehana Sharif, Student Counselor Dr. Tayyaba Mushtaq, faculty members, and a large number of students. At the end of the session, Dr. Nasir Hayat presented souvenirs to the distinguished speakers in recognition of their contributions.
The program concluded with a reaffirmation of the university community’s collective commitment to standing against all forms of violence physical and digital and fostering a culture of awareness, empathy, and accountability on campus.
